New Year Resolution: To Prioritize Sexual Health
As the new year approaches, many will find themselves making amends with the old year and working on the goals for the new year. Most will want to lose weight, exercise more, eat better, achieve work-life balance, adopt a new hobby and working to have better overall health. All of these are great goals; however, what about sexual health?
What is Sexual Health?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sexual health is “a state of physical, emotional, mental an dsocial well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absnece of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful appraoch to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free or coercion, discrimination and violence.” In simple words, sexual health is a comprehensive and well-rounded state of enjoyment and satisfaction with one’s sexuality and sexual life.
Sexual Health Goals
As we face the new year, we can commit to working on the following goals, among others:
Committing to enhance intimacy and connections within one’s relationship(s).
Have a better and stronger relationship with our bodies and sexuality.
Getting checked and treated for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Preventing or helping prevent unintended pregnancies.
